The Mercedes-AMG C43 caused quite a stir when it debuted, but it surprised many with a four-cylinder engine instead of the expected six-cylinder powertrain. By contrast, its rivals, the BMW M340i and Audi S5, still rely on six-cylinder engines. But does the C43’s smaller engine mean less performance? Throttle House decided to settle the debate with a drag race, pitting these mid-range performance sedans against each other.

Before delving into the game, let’s take a look at the stats. The Mercedes-AMG C43 is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that produces 402 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission. At 4,092 pounds, it’s the heaviest of the three sedans.

The BMW M340i, on the other hand, has a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six making 382 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. At 3,951 pounds, it’s lighter than the C43. Finally, the Audi S5 is the lightest of the lot at 3,924 pounds and has a 3.0-liter turbo V6 that makes 349 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque.

In terms of price, the Mercedes-AMG C43 is the most expensive option, starting at $59,900 in the United States. The BMW M340i follows at $59,600 for the 2023 model year. The Audi S5 is the most affordable of the three, starting at $56,800.
